MANAIA ROAD BOARD.
The Board met at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Present — Messrs. Glenn, Wilkie, Young, and Yorke (Chairman), later Mr. Inkster. The minutes of the previous meeting ( were read and confirmed. Oorrespendence were read from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, stating that the section applied for would be reserved for a site for offices. From the Treasury, enclosing a schedule showing the amount of money from progress payments paid over to account of the Road -Board. — Prom Mr. Crawford, resigning his seat on the Board. It was resolved that specifications for crossings on various roads be prepared, and tenders called for the work. Tenders to be submitted to next meeting. Mr. Yorke said he had been requested by Messrs. Forbes and McDonald to represent their case to the Board. They woalct not have taken earth from side roads, if they bad been warned in time. It was resolved that the £5 stopped from Messrs. Forbes and McDonald's contract, be paid as soon as holes have been filled up where required by the Engineer. Mr. Crawford's resignation was received and accepted with regret. engineer's report. The report showed that almost all the works in hand had been completed, except Scott's Boai. Payments for contracts passed were authorised. The Chairman, Messrs. Glenn, and Inkster, reported -that they -were satisfied -watt kW work hone, anh coxtbracba within their several wards. The Chairman reported that £413 had been paid into the deferred payment account by the Government, and there was still a balance available for expenditure of about £180. The question of erecting a bridge on the Normanby Road was discussed. Mr. Glenn reported that he had examined the creek, and moved that twelve dray loads of stone be place in Niotoumati Creek, on Novmanby Road. The Secretary was instructed to secure a team for the work, and to show coutractorß where atone could De procured. The Chairman reported the result of the conference of Road Boards re County Representation; also, what had been done about the new valuation roll. He considered the roll very imperfect, but, as a rate would shortly be required<lt was probably better than none. A new roll ought to be ready by 15th January, and as at least a month would be required to prepare it, and tenders would be called for the work, it would be well to advertise it shortly. The ohairman was instructed to prepare specifications, under which every propei'ty on the open land would be visited by the valuer, and every occupied section on bush land. Any properties belonging to one owner, but not adjoining, to be separately valued, in order to facilitate transfer, by setting forth the liability for rates on each property. The Chairman gave notice that he \ might have to call a meeting within a month to strike a rate under the present roll as soon as it had been amended by the valuer, and passed by the judge of the Assessment Court.
