THE NEW UNION BANK.

As stated in our last issue, tenders are now out for the erection of the new Union Bank to be built on a most valuable section opposite the Post Office, and next to Hawera House. A sight of the plans prepared by Mr. Pinches, architect, shows that a very handsome addition to Hawera buildings is about to be made. The front elevation is on a capital design, sufficiently ornamental to make the building attractive, but free from any of those decorations! which, in a wooden building soon bear the aspect of faded frippery. The frontage of the bank will be 52 feet, and the extreme depth about 45 feet. The business part of the premises will consist oi & hne £>uMic office 21 f&Gt 6 inobesi 13 feet, with a comfortable manager's office at side, and a strong room at the rear fitted with one of Miler's patent fireproof doors. The manager's private residence will consist of a drawing-room 15 feet x 15 feet, dining-room, 15 feet x 11 feet' 6 inches, four bedrooms, kitchen, and bath-room. As the studs are to bo 14 feet, the whole of the apartments will be lotty. Teuders are to close on 12th November, and it is to be a condition of the contract that the building shall be completed by 31st January next.
