AUCKLAND, This Day.
Highly important judgment affecting transactions for the acquisition of land, and especially directed at the restriction of piivate caveats, was delivered in chambers yesterday morning by Justice Gillies. Henceforth, to use the judge's own words, " Caveats by private individuals will not be restricted to lands held in trust, whilst all other equitable rights or interests must be established by registerable instruments or decree of this Court."
ASHBURTON, This Day. Joseph Ivess, a candidate for Wakanui, last night received a vote of confidence. He opposes the present Government, but will not support Grey as leader. DUNEDIN, This Day, Roaches Hotel near Arrowtown, was burnt last night.
The first gunpowder manufactured by John Mackle3 r , at Opaki Mills (116 packages), was brought to port yesterday. The samples are favorably spoken of. Sixty-eight stud sheep from Tasmania and Victoria, arrived yesterday, by the Ai-awab. Seventeen died between Port Chalmers and Lyttelton, from too long confinement.
