PATEA.
(from our own correspondent.)
The Fire Brigade held a meeting last night, and decided to canvass the town for subscriptions towards starting an efficient force, which is becoming a matter of serious importance. The idea is to erect as many tanks as possible in central situations to provide a constant supply of water in cases of emergency. Mr. W. Dixon was elected captain, and I believe will do his utmost to make the scheme a success.
Candidates of all descriptions are flowing in for the honor of representation on the borough council, and we are anxiously looking forward to the election. No doubt one of the best means to make succsss sure, especially at the start, is to secure representatives of good discrimination, judgment, and business capacity, and I should like to see some more of that stamp coming forward. October 22.
