OPENING OF THE RAILWAY.
Complaints are reasonably made that practically no facilities are given to the Hawera people to travel on the line on opening day. .Three trains are to leave New Plymouth in the morning, returning in the evening, while none but afternoon trains leave Hawera. Surely, the railway management might have given us one train up and down in the day. It is true that tickets issued for the afternoon train will be available for the down trains next day, but that involves the expense of staying at New Plymouth for the night, and breaks into the following day's business. Various causes have operated to prevent a formal celebration worthy of the name in Hawera, but the business pl&oes ay© to t>]ose, &nri many persons thus freed would be glad of the opportunity of a trip up the line, could they return the same day. Notice would certainly be short, but still it is desirable to alter the present arrangements in the manner indicated.
