LONDON, October 11.
The frozen beef brought per steamer Orient, from Melbourne, was sold at Smithfield market to-day, and realised an average of s£d. per lb. The meat was in excellent condition.
PARIS, October 10.
News has been received that a battle has been fought at Testour, in Northern Tunis, between the French and the Arab insurgents. The engagement was of a sanguinary character, and resulted in the complete rout of the Arabs.
WASHINGTON, October 10.
At a meeting of the Senate to-day, Bayard, a demoorat, was temporarily elected president of the Senate by 34 votes to 32. The democrats are now obstructing the admission of a new republican senator.
VIENNA, October 10.
Baron Yon Haymerle, Austro- Hungarian Minister for Foreign Affairs, died suddenly to-day.
