(per united press association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Mr. Burton Boys contests Wairarapa South. The Premier goes South to-day. An eleven-roomed house at Weedons, belonging to Patrick Merrion, was burned on Thursday morning. The causes of the fire are uncertain. It was insured for £450 in the New Zealand office. A Dunedin firm intends establishing sulphuric acid works near White Island. It is proposed to start a woollen factory in Wellington, with a capital of £50,000, in £5 shares. A large number of shares have already been taken up. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. An absurd rumor was going about town last week of the natives having broken out and shot six or seven Armed Constabulary men. There was a good deal of excitement in consequence, and the newspapers here were rushed. Other rumors of mysterious telegrams cropped up, all equally baseless. AUCKLAND, This Day. The newly-appointed committee of the Auckland Bowing Club will make arrangements with the Wellington Club, and others, for giving effect to the suggestions thrown out for establishing an amateur championship for sculling. The Board of Education rejected the proposal of the Cifcy Schools Committee to establish free evening classes in public schools. £120 was realised from the amateur performance on Wednesday night in aid of the Jews in Russia. INVERCARGILL, This Day. The Southland Frozen Meat and Produce Company has been successfully floated.

KUMARA, This Day. Mr. SeldoH, M.H.R., was entertained at luncheon at the Town Hall on Friday evening, on his return from Parliament.
