NORMANBY.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) September 20, 1881.

Mr. Wilson's hotel, and the addition to Mr. Gibson's store, being now nearly completed, a slight description of them may be of interest. The hotel is 40 feet tiquar,e on ground plan, and being on a corner section has a double frontage of the usual character. The angle is cut off, and a light but substantial balcony is fixed, which is also useful for supporting a large ornamental lantern. There are three entrances — one into the bar, which is fitted up after the modern style, the other two into passages, which cammnnicate with parlors and dining-room. - The kitchen is entered from the dining-room, and is fitted up with every requisite in the way of shelving, &c. Above stairs, two passages at right angles give access to eight bedrooms, bathroom, parlor, with fire-place, and which opens on to tne balcony. The whole of the rooms are well Lighted and neatly finished. Messrs. Martin and Co. are the contractors, Mr. G. Epping, the painter and paperhanger, and I believe the whole of the work has been executed in a very creditable manner, and has given great satisfaction. Mr. Lockington designed the building, as also that of Mr. Gibson, And the plan in both cases is admirably suited to what is required, in the one case for appearance, and the other for strength. The addition to the store fills up the corner of the street, which was formerly useless, and thus improves materially that portion of the township. The building is 42ft. x 81ft. on ground plan, two stories high, and built throughout entirely with regard to strength. A cart- way runs throughout the building, over which there is travelling tackle for the loading and unloading of drays. The flooring is raised after the manner of a goods shed, and at the farther end is fitted up with shelves. The upper floor is supported by strong posts, and has a hatchway, which is to be fitted up with shelving. Both floors have communication with the present store, and with this addition the store is one of the largest in the district, having a floor space of some 6000 superficial feet. Mr. W. Lockington was the contractor for this, and lias executed the work so as to give the fullest satisfaclion.

While on the subject, I may mention that a large two-stoned building is to be erected for Mr. F. Hunger, next to Messrs Treweek's butchery. It is intended for two shops, but if required can be used as one.
