CALCUTTA, August 25. Telegrams are to hand from Candahar, reporting that Ayoub Khan is again making overtures to Abdul Rahman, with a view to the suspension of hostilities. The announcement requires confirmation. LONDON, August 25. The Orient Co.'s steamship Sorata, which left Melbourne on the 11th July, arrived at Plymouth yesterday. Intelligence is to hand from Ireland, announcing that serious rioting has taken place at several towns in the County of Limerick between the police and people. The following awards to colonial exhibitors at the International Wool Show, at the Crystal Palace are annnounced: — For washed, cross-bred, and combing wool, the Government of New Zealand, first ; Messrs Samuel Wilson and Russell, and Government of New Zealand, second; • and Messrs. John Waro (Victoria), and Carter, third. For washed clothing wool — Prince George Nisehoenich, Caroliath of Mellendoff, Russia, takes first prize. The Intercolonial Wool Exhibition awards consist of gold, silver, and bronze medals for first, second, and third classes respectively. It is announced that in

addition to silver medal, Sir Samuel Wilson also takes a gold medal for washed crossbreds and combing wools. A grand review of volunteers took place to-day at Edinburgh before the Queen. Over 40,000 men were under arms. The affair was most successful. Both Houses of Parliament adjourned to-day until Saturday next, when the prorogation will take place. Heavy rain continues to fall throughout England, and is causing severe damage by floods. It is, moreover, "proving most disastrous to harvest operations. NEW YOKE, August 24. The Irish Beyolutionary, Convention which recently held a meeting at Chicago has decided upon an extended " dynamite -programme," and has issued a notification warning people to avoid patronising ships sailing under the British flag after the end of the present month. From that time the scheme of the revolutionists, will, it is stated, commence to be carried into effect.
