Wanganui, May 18. At Mr. Lupton's sale a large attendance of purchasers were present, the bidding was . brisk, and all the lots were sold under the hammer. The cattle were of good quality, and made capital prices. At Kakaramea the yards were well filled with useful stock, and, although the day was wet and cold, a very large attendance of settlers were at the sale, and every lot told brisk at market rates. The St. Hill-street yards to-day .were quite full; cattle sold well at improved values ; good sheep were well competed tor', and made splendid prices. The Napier sheep did not find favor with the farmers, being of a class not suitable for this market. I placed the lot at the quotations below, which cannot pay the importers. A large entry of pigs came forward, and met a fair market, all being quitted without much trouble. Horses were of an inferior stamp, and were dull of etie. Cattle. — At Waverley, 835 head were yarded. Milch cows, L 7 6s; cows, L3 l7s 6d to LI; fat cows, L 5 2s 6d; bullocks, • L 7 7s 6d; heifers, L 2 10s; steers, L 4. "At Kakaramea, 196 head were sold. Fat bullocks, L 6 6s ; stores, L 4 2s 6d ; cows, L 8 to L 3 17s 6d; yearlings, Ll 17s 6d. At the yards to-day, 254 head were yarded. Fat bullocks, L 6 15s to L 7 ss ; cows, L 5 158|to L 6; store cows, L 3 16s ; half-fatted, L 4 7s 6d ; yearlings, L 2 7s 6d ; milch cows, L4 lss to L 7 6s ; calves, Ll 15s. Sheep. — At Kakaramea, 838 were penned. Wethers, 7b 3d ; ewes, 6s. At the yards today, 2833 came forward. Best wethers, up to 11s 9d ; ewes in lamb, lls 3d ; Napier sheep, 6s 3d to 7s. Pigs— About 120 made up the sale. Best pigs, fit for bacon, 50s ; good porkers, 14s to 20s. Horses. — At Waverley, 90 head were ■old at current rates. At the yards to-day prices were low. Exports — 64 cattle, 911 sheep, and 11 hones.
