MINUTES.

The minutes of previous were read and confirmed.'

CORRESPONDENCE.

From the Secretary to the Treasury, informing the Board that there was a sum of £708 paid into the Bank of New Zealand, at Normanby, to the credit of the Board.

From the Agent of the Bank of New Zealand, Normanby, stating that jB7OB was now lying atrthe Bank to the Board's credit.

From Mr. Sparks, re deviation ot Climie road.

From Mr. GocUrin, re compensation for land taken by the Board. With regard to Mr. Godkin's letter for compensation, Mr. Quin stated that he thought the claim a very reasonable one indeed, and proposed that the amount be paid. Seconded by Mr. Mabey, and carried unanimously. Ec letter from Mr/ Sparks, Mr. Calvert

stated he had spoken to some of the residents on Climie road about the deviation, . and found that they would aB soon have the road made straight, if it could be done. A discussion then arose as to what grade there would be on the straight road, and it was ultimately decided to keep the original agreement with Mr. Sparks, and carry out the deviation, and that the contractor be ordered to go on with the work at once.

The following tenders were then opened for the secretaryship : — S. Gray, £25 per annum; South ey Fowler, £20 per annum. Messrs. Wanklyn and Bickerton also tendered, but as tbeir tenders did not state any price, they could not be entertained. It was resolved that Mr. McCutchan's resignation of the secretaryship be accepted, and that Mr. Fowler's tender be accepted, conditionally, however, that should the new Board, when elected, not agree with the appointment, then one month's notice on either side should terminate the said appointment. The following tenders were then opened for compiling a valuation liet : — S. Fowler (accepted), £1 75. ; S. Gray, £15 ; list to be completed within 6even days from date of acceptance of tender. A letter was read from Mr. O'Donovan, resigning his office as a member of the Board. Mr. Quin proposed, and Mr. Calvert seconded, that Mr. o'Donovan's resignation be not accepted. — Carried. Resolved that Mr. Smith be allowed a progress payment of £35, for works on Finnerty road. Mr. O'Donovan here put in an appearance, and wished to know whether his resignation had been accepted, and was informed it had not. He then moved a resolution that the clerk communicate with the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and inquire as to what amount of instalment for half-year, commencing in January, 1881, is payable on deferred payment land. Seconded by Mr. Quin, and cam d.

Mr. O'Donovan proposed that the Commissioner of Crown Lands be written to, asking him whether the salaries of the Board's officers should be paid out of deferred payment monies. Mr. Quin thought this a most absurd resolution. The deferred payment money was the only source of revenue the Board had, and it was not to be supposed the Board's officers could be kept out of their money, month after month, as they would be, if they were not paid, as at present. It was quite time to meet objections, if objections were raised. The motion then lapsed. Resolved that the clerk write to the Ministr of Public Works, representing the necessity of expending a sum of money on box culverts and drains on the Mountain road.

Mr. O'Donovan then proceeded to put one or two more resolutions, but as some members of the Boord had left the room, there was no quorum; consequently nothing came of the resolutions. The following accounts were passed for payment : — Galvin and Co., £11 55. ; Kirkpatrick, £92 55. ; Harre, £20 10s. : McCarthy, £30 155. ; C. Quin, £31 lOss. ; Twigg, £15 Os. 6d.; Godkin, £12: Whittaker Bros,, £1 Bs. lOd. The Board adjourned at 5 .m.
