MR. SAUNDERS, M.H.R., AND HIS CONSTITUENTS.
[Speoully Telegraphed to Star.]
(per united press association.) CHEISTCHUKCH, Last Night. Mr. Saunders addressed his constituents at Waikari last night. After claiming to have done more than any other member to reduce the publio expenditure, he said he would not' support Sir Geo. Grey, whose Government had in two years, to their great disgrace, spent £15,000,000. He spoke highly of Major Atkinson's speech, and said the present was the first Government that had ever reduced the expenditure one shilling. He supported the Property Tax, but improvements should be exempted. Land should be taxed r in order to catch speculators, but not improvements. He was strongly opposed to protection. He supported the ' present Education system, and thought its cost, and that of Charitable Aid, was xighUyobarged to the Consolidated Revenue. The so-called Liberal party had no claim to the title. The real Liberals , were men like Sir William Fox, J. D: Ormond, and B ader Wood. . A TO* 6 of confidence was passed.
