LONDON, May 9.
The race for the One Thousand Guineas Stakes was run on Friday at Newmarket, and was won by Thebais, with Thora second, and Bal Gal third.
Telegrams have been received from the head-quarters of the French army in Tunis, stating that the force is slowly advancing towards tbe capital. The Porte and the Bey have issued a further protest to the Great Powers against the action of France in sending the expedition to Tunis.
News has been received from Ireland that several riots have occurred there over the service of writs for the ejectment of tenants. Collisions between the police and the people have been of a serious character.
• ST. PETERSBURG, May 9.
It is currently rumored here that the Czar, Alexander 111., has formed a complete programme of reform to be instituted in the Government of Russia.
NATAL, May 9.
Intelligence to hand from Natal states that the relations between the Boers and natives continue in a most unsatisfactory state, and that the latter now threaten to rise against the Boers after the British troops are withdrawn.
CAPETOWN, May 9.
A political crisis has occurred here. The Ministry of the Hon. John Gordon Spring has resigned. A new Ministry has been formed by Mr. Scanlan.
