MELBOUENE, Yesterday. Mr. E. C. Bagot, secretary to the Victoria Bacing Club, died yesterday. Mr. Bagot had been secretary to the V.E.C. for a long number of years, and the success of the club was very largely due to his exertions,
The Conference Committees of the Legislative Council and Assembly broke up without coming to any agreement, such being found impossible. Before breaking up, an acrimonious debate took place. Mr. Berry insisted upon maintaining the Assembly's terms. Sir Charles Sladen said the Council's ultimatum had only been come to after a long deliberation, and any departure from the same was not likely to take place now. He denied that the Council would have accepted Mr. Service's Beform Bill.
SYDNEY, Yesterday. A deputation of Italian residents of this city waited upon the Premier yesterday, and presented him with a letter expressing their thanks for the shelter and assistance afforded to the Italian immigrants belonging to the Maiquis de Bay's expedition, and who recently arrived here in a destitute condition.
A grand Naval Eeview of the Australian squadron, under command of Commodore Wilson, took place on Tuesday at Port Jackson. The forces engaged included ten warships carrying fifty guns, and 1500 men, including 300 men of the New South Wales Naval Brigade. The Eeview was followed by a sham fight, in which H.M. ships Wolverine, Emerald, Miranda, and Cormorant took part.
The Wallsend Company of Newcastle has reduced its prices to 7b. for best coal per ton.
Samples of Boorook silver ore have been assayed in London 17, 13-16, 53£, and 41i sterling, respectively per ton. The news has caused some excitement in this colony.
BRISBANE. Yesterday. Mr. Mcllwraith, Premier, telegraphs from London that he believes he will be able to come to terms regarding transcontinental railways within a week, on the basis of £10,000 for Western, and £12,000 for Gulf Land per mile.
