THE CENSUS RETURNS.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR.

Sir, — Will you kindly allow me to call the attention of your readers to the fact that in the Census Papers, to be filled up by all householders next Sunday, a column is to be found headed "religion." It has been stated by the " Bible in schools" party that the Secularists and Freethinkers in New Zealand are a small and unimportant party. Let each man, then, act faithfully in this matter, writing himself under a true classification, not stating that he belongs to the "Church of England," "Presbyterians," "Wesleyans," &c, when the fact is that he, perhaps, has not been a professor of religion for years, and does not intend to become one. The Census is to know our own opinions, not whether our fathers and mothers were Anglican, Presbyterian, or any other denomination. — I am, &c, Freethinker.
