CRICKET.

HAWERA SECOND ELEVEN F. MANAIA A.CS.

This match came off on Saturday. As there was not time to play out the two innings, it was decided in favor of Hawera, which made 126 in the first innings, whilst Manaia only scored 91. There was some good play on both sides. Twist's batting and bowling was firstclass. He will be a hard nut to crack in the forthcoming match between the combined A.C.'s. and the first eleven. Silver, Arden, and Gentles are no mean opponents, and if there was a ground fit to play upon at Manaia, it would be no easy matter for the second eleven to obtain a victory. On the Hawera side, King distinguished himself, not alone with the bat, but in the field as well, and it is not to be wondered at that he was raised to the degree of " first eleven man " in the evening by the match committee. White showed some good cricket in both innings, and was the top scorer of the day, having put together 29 in the first, and 17 in the second innings. Fowler and Goodson appear to be the most promising " colts " in the club ; the former wields the bat in fine style, but as an all-round man he does not quite come up to Goodson. Both of them should have a good chance of being amongst the first eleven in a season or two, and Flint and H. Bayly ought not to be far behind. The following are the scores : —
