THE MOKAU. -LETTER FROM RFWI.
Major Parris has kindly favored us with the following copy of a letler which he received yesterday from Rewi, in reference to the opening up of the Mokau :—: — " Puniu (Waikito), " February 27, 1881.
"To Mr. Parris, Commissioner, New Plymouth. — Friend : I salute you. I have lecoived a letter, informing me about Europeans working the coal at Mokan. My word to you is, in reference to both the Europeans and Maoris who are engaged in that work : Stop it. Do not send Europeans there, or p rniit any rent to be paid. Stop it entirely.
" King Tawhiao has issued a proclamation to the four extremities of the island, going all round, calling all the people of the island to meet him on the 16th March. April will see the jjreat event. This is why I say : Let that work at Mokau cease. My fixed word is : Let ' Ahura ' fall. From me.
" From Manga."
