COMBINED A.O.'S V. HAWERA CRICKET CLUB.
The long- expected match between the Hawera CO. and the Combined A.C.'s took place on Saturday, at Opunake. There was very good play on botli sides. Sergeauts Smith and Foley made a gallant stand for nearly two hours, and Moore sustained the brilliant reputation which he brought here by a fine display of cricket in the second innings. Ten of the A.C.'s were disposed of for 24 in the fivst innings, but Connell and Taylor, tlie two last men, brought the score up to 52. On the Hawera side, the bowling of Riddiford and Parrington was very effective ; whilst Beresfurd, Parrington, and Jacomb batted well in the first innings, which closed for 89 runs. The A.O.s were more fortunate in their second innings, and made the respectable score of 92. of which Foley and Smith contributed 29 each. Hawera had then only 56 to make, and Moore and Bereford were sent to the wickets. The former scored 36, which was made up by brilliant hits as follows : — One five, two threes, eight twos, and nine singles. Beresford was disposed of for 6, and Parrington and Riddiford had the honor of carrying their bats out. Mr. J. H. Newman acted as umpire for the Combined A.O.s, and Mr. Wilson Huvsthouse for the Hawera C. 0. In the middle of the day there was a capital luncheon pi-ovided in the new bairackroom, and it is needless to say that that part of the day's proceedings received due attention. Twelve men played on each side. The following are the scores : — ARMED CONSTABULARY. Ist innings. 2nd innings.
