Nelson, Last Night.

The Rifle Association meeting was opened by the Mayoress on Monday, who scored a bull's eye. There are 150 com* petitors. First Match— 2oo, 400, and 500 yards. Open to all members of the Association. 23 prizes, of a total value of £70. Prize list in order :— Griffiths and Crossman, each 74 ; Paynter, Wemyss, Williamson, Hughes, and Ross, each 73: Dixon, A. Sampson (Kuniara), Adams, Picketts, Smith (Greymoutb), McKenzie (Blenheim), Rogers, Lieut. Ballinger, Somerville, Parslow, each 72 ; Chad wick, Gray, Payne, Anderson, Nimsell, Ellis, each 71. Randall and Chapman also made 72, but did not get prizes. Second Match— Rifles ; 10 shots at 200 yards. Prize takers in order: — Ho well, Taranaki ; Hoskiu, Taranaki ; each 39. Fowler, Waimea, 38. Waddell, Nelson, 37. Reniingtou, Wanganui ; Loveridge, Taranaki ; Peach, Stoke ; Hunter, Waimea ; Weir, Thames ; Dingle, Taranaki ; Lander, Taranaki ; Paynter, Stoke ; each 36.

Third Mateh — Carbines; 10 shots at 200 yards. Prize takers in order ; number of prizes being reduced from 12 to 7 : — Cameron, Thames ; Smith, Nelson ; Bennett, Wellington ; Dixon, Wellington, each 37. Armstrong, Thames ; Keller, Thames ; Parslow, Thames ; eacb^ 35. Thomas, Ingle, and McCredie also 35, but no prize.
