SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
HAWERA. The usual monthly meeting was held on Wednesday evening. Present — Rev. J. Torry (chairman), Messrs. King, Syme, McCutchan, McFarland, and Pitcher. Letters were read from Messrs. W. H. • Watt (Wanganui), G. S. Bridge (Waverley), and W. Williams (Patea), expressing their willingness to be nominated as members of the Education Board. The Wanganui School Committee forwarded a printed circular, setting forth that Messrs. Watt, Duigan, and Bridge had been nominated by that body. After some discussion, it was resolved that Messrs. Watt and Bridge (in addition to i Mr. McGregor) should be nominated by ♦ the committee. The teacher complained of a nuisance that existed in the vicinity of the school, which necessitated the closing of the doors and windows to exclude the foul smell, and it was decided that the chairman should write to the inspector of nuisances for the county, requesting to have it abated forthwith, as the health of the children would be placed in jeopardy if it was permitted to continue any longer.
