LATER.
Grahamstown, Last night. In connection with the recent murder at Te Aroha, the police state they have evidence tracing the mouthpiece of the pipe found near the murdered man into the possession of the prisoner, Procoffy. A pigeon-gram says the Ngatihako tribe, of which the deceased was member, is now holding a tangi over the body, and are very excited. The miners are coming in from all' outlying claims. The natives declare they will have blood for blood. Ngaihako is the tribe that committed the assault on the survey party 18 months' ago. One man is now missing, and a search party is out. His friends fear danger to him from the natives. On Saturday afternoon, an inquest was held at Te Aroha, before T. Kenrick, and the evidence showed that deceased and prisoner were not on friendly terms, and had quarrelled on the day of the murder. Wet clothes in prisoner's whare, on which stains of blood are supposed to exist, were produced. Some bruises were found on prisoner's body. The medical man could not say if stains on the clothes were of blood, until the spots had been subjected
to microscopical observation. The jury returned a verdict that the deceased, Hhniona, had been found foully murdered by some person unknown. The prisoner was brought up before Mr. Kenrick, at Te Aroba, on Saturday night, and charged with the wilful murder of Hioiiona, and remanded to Grahamstown for eight days.
