Melbourne, Yesterday. The election of a member for East Melbourne in the room of the late Mr. A. K. Smith, resulted in the return ot Mr. Walsh, a Constitutionalist, by a large majority. Cunningham and Co., A. Moore and €0., and Royse, Stead and Co., Christchurch, for wheat ; McConneU. Bros., €hristchurch, for bacon and hams. Steconds : E. Banks, P. Cunningham and Co., A. Moore and Co., G. Eannell, Eoyse, Stead, and Co., Christchurch, Western District Agricultural and Pastoral Association, Riverton, Job Vile, Masterton, Metherale Bros., Havelock, and P. Butel and Co., Arrow, Otago, for wheat ; J. Goodwin, Pigeon Bay, Canterbu y, for ■cheese ; James Eagle, Christe Lurch, for hams and bacon ; McDonald and Miller, -Green Island, Dunedin, for bacon.

News has been received that a cyclone ■of a most severe character has visited the town of Koebourne, in the northwest of this colony, the site of the pearl fisheries. Twelve boats used by the pearlers have been totally lost.
