(from our own correspondent.) Carlyle, Last night. The Patea correspondent of the Wanganui Chronicle informs the readers of that journal that the Harmonic Society contemplates giving a ball. Possibly, he means that the building of a hill ia contemplated, as the society has the matter under consideration. Asecfcipnwassecurad some time ago close by the main street, and with a froutoge to Cambridge st^et. The society is now practising Lurch's cantata " Evelyn," which will be given at the next cone rt. On Saturday afternoon Mr. W. Cowern'S sale of horses attracted a large company, but buyers were scarce, and bidding very inactive. Mr. Gr. H.- Dickson was the principay speculator. Mr. P. H. Forster, recently sub-store-keeper here for the militia and volunteer office, is ordered to rejoin the A.C. camp. In recognition of his services to the volunteers while here, and his general obliging disposition, the officers and non-commis-sioned officers last evening presented him with a short address, accompanied by ft' handsome gold ring.
