(from our own correspondent.) Pungarehu, Tuesday Afternoon. According to the Parihaka natives, the Governor's letter which was delivered by Captain Knolly's to Te Whiti, contained an invitation to the Prophet to visit Wellington, or left it for Te Wbiti to.mention another meeting place in the , dist ict. This, and this alone ; and they profess ignorance of any wish expressed by the Governor that Te Whiti should take charge of the land between the,Waingongora and Stoney, River. Te Whiti's reply, stripped <3f metaphof, wps a complaint of the Buflerifig&4lia, n s*? ves were were undergoing by the impw»nnenfc of their men, and the maintenancfo|£aiiarmy of constabulary close to Parihaka aSv^ threat and a menace. These things are done in the name of the Governor. Te Whiti is helpless to assist his people, and the agents of the Governor will not help them, and the Governor alone can get them out of their troubles, a? the doctor assists a sick- man. Being prostrate, he cannot leave his place ; and it is for the doctor to assist the sick man. Te Whiti has said, since Captain Knolly's departure, that if Sir Arthur Gordon is a good Governor, he will come ty him,. and attempt to redress his wrpngSj Captain Knolly's came twice from Pungarehu to Parihaka, and Mr Hursthottse and Hone Pihama three times.
