(from our own correspondent.) New Plymouth, Last night.

At the meeting of the Land Board, tV. P. Taylor's applic ition to relinquish section 36, block 6, Ngaire, was referred to the Ranger. The applications of the following persons were agreed to : — Carl Frank, 149 acres, sections 115 and 117, block 2, Ngaire ; Charlotte Jones, 65, acres 2 roods, section 124, block 2, Ngaire. One application sent in by Patrick Galvin, for 159 acres 1 rood 15 perches, block 5, Ngaire, informal, was withdrawn. ,

At the Police Court to-day, John Willis was committed fer^ trial upon a charge of stealing a chestnut "mare, the property of a native named.Kuhata, of Whenuakura, on the 28th December. The same prisoner was sentenced to three months' hard labor for stealing a saddle, and bridle, valued at £3, the property of G., Broughton.

At the inquest on the body of Mrs Daikie, found amongst the ruins of the house destroyed by fire on New Tear's morning, the principal evidence was given by Mr Daikie, who stated that he and his wife were intoxicated when they went to bed. The evidence went to show that the Daikies lived on good terms. The jury returned a verdict that there was no evidence to show how the fire originated.

Christchcrch, Last night,

William Kerrisone, who was deliberately shot by Walter Pringle Giiison on Christmas eve, died this morning. Kerrisone had persuaded his sister, who had been cohabiting with Giiison, to leave the latter, and this is believed to be the cause of the shooting. Giiison is in- custody.
