RELEASE OF THE MAORI PRISONERS.

[Specially Telegraphed to Star.l

(from our own correspondent.)

Wellington, Last night.

I hear it reported, on what appears to be reliable authority, that the Government are desirous of releasing the Maori prisoners, or, at all events, the greater portion of them. I do not know how it will affect your district, but I should imagine the new s^ fitters, vrao have paid high prices for their land, will hardly relish the proposal.
