CASH LAND.

Thursday was set apart for the Bale of 8,000 acres of land adjoining that sold on the previous day. There was a much larger attendance, and the bidding throughout the day was very brisk ; the average • - being >aboufc 15s per acre more than was realised at the cash sale' held two months ago. Everything went smoothly ; a few. sections that were knocked down, having been disputed, were put up again, whenever there appeared to be a doubt as to a bid having been made before the fall of the hammer. Previous to the sale, the Commissioner of Crown Lands called at- J terition to the fact that timber reserves, 1000 acres in extent, had been laid off near Ahipaipa, Manaia, Omuturangi, and Te Ngutu-o-te-Manu. He stited that licenses Would be obtainable tfom the Ist January.* For private use,-~£l would be charged, and £5 for cutting for sale. 'He would also be prepared to receive applications tor eaw-mllhag purposes, after the Ist January, on any of the reserves,- .On section No. 11, block 111., there was a torop of potatoes, the right to remove which was reserved for the Maori owners. In answer to a question, the Commissioner stated that he considered three months would be a reasonable time to give for removal of the potatoes, after being fit to dig. - Mr. Glenn, a gentleman from the West Coast of the Middle Island, asked if the land to be sold was rateable for harbor purposes at New Plymouth, to which Mr. Wtay teulied that lie believed the land was liable for a shilling rate in the £. The Commissioner notified that no alterations would be permitted, once the names were entered on the books, and if any persons were, acting as agent, the names of the principals would have to be B\ven, or else the land would have to be transferred in the usual way. When our reporter came to compare his notes of the names of the purchasers who had declared in the room with those entered on the Register Book, he found a very considerable difference, and had to make several alterations. The total amount realised at the cash sale was £38,000, the average being £6 18s. 6d. per acre. Section 64, block "VI., fetched the highest price. It is a small section near the township of Manaia, and was wrongly marked on the map as consisting of 12a. 3r. 31p., instead of 22a. Br. 81p. The attention of the Commissioner was called to the apparent discrepancy, but he stated that he was selling the section at per acre, and any mistake would be . afterwards rectified. The following are the details of the sale : —
