Puriri, bred by H. Redwood, Esq., 1873, is 7 years old, by Towton, dam Waimea, by Sir Hercules, dam Flora Mclvor, by Emigrant, dam Cornelia, by Grasshopper — Manto by Southsayer. Towton by Melbourne, dam Cinizelli ; Cinizelli by Touchstone. See " New Zealand Stud Book." ! Towton, sire of Puriri, was also sire of j such celebrities as old Tambourini, 3£orari, Songster (sire of Hornby), &c. Full brother to The Peer (sire of Manuka and Peeress), also to Marchioness, winner of English Oaks and other great races. Half brother to the famous Marquis (sire of Painter, Newminster, and Grand Prix) who won St. Leger, Two Thousand, and ran Caractacus to a head for the Derby. Waimea, dam of Puriri, was the greatest stud matron in New Zealand, her progeny having won more races and produced ; more winners. Her descendants were Manuka, Toi Toi (dam Kakapo and Hornby), Harekeke (dam Itorari), Totara, Papapa. Kauri, Rama Rama, and Leveller 1 .
