CARLYLE.
(VROH OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
Carlyle, Friday. The cargo of the stranded schooner Jane Anderson is discharged. She is on a soft beach, and has apparently sustained no damage beyond starting the stem-post: she lies broadside on, but is not bumping much. It is fully expected that, with good strong gear and favorable weather Kke the present, she could be towed off her present position, which is about 80ft. from deep water.
At the R.M. Court, on Tuesday, Mr. Hamerton applied for payment of the expenses of the man Turney, lately tried on the charge of injuring a horse. Sergeant Donovan stated, that the prosecution was a public one, instituted by the police ; and the bench ruled that expenses could not be allowed.
A special general meeting of the Patea S.S. Company was held on Tuesday, several of the principal shareholders being present. It was stated that circulars had been issued, and the district canvassed with a view to increase the company's capital, but, as only 142 shares had been applied for, the attempt was not successful, and will be abandoned.
