TO OUR READERS.
Since the establishment of this journal, it has been the desire of its proprietors to make it thoroughly representative of the district, and considerable expenditure has been incurred, because it was felt that this country was only, so to speak, in its infancy, and therefore that the outlay might be recouped a few years benee. Amo»»st the settlers who have recently purchased land on the Waimate Plains is a gentleman who, for some time, had the editorial charge of one of the leading daily papers in New Zealand, and who, as Wellington correspondent, contributed the " Flying sketches in Parliament," and other articles to this journal, The proprietors of the Star have much pleasure in stating that he has now consented to co-operate with them. Not ouly has the gentleman referred to been recognised as a good journalist, but he has had the advantage of a settler's experience of the working of our county and road board systems, having been for many years a member of both bodies, and has some practical knowledge of farming and pastoral pursuits. The proprietors feel assured that his assistance will be an advantage not alone to this journal, but to the district that it seeks to represent. ■No pains have been spared in the past to turn out a creditable newspaper, and it will be the aim of the proprietors to improve it whenever an opportunity occurs in the future.
