SKIN GRAFTING FROM THE DEAD.
De. J. H. Giednee, house Burgeon at Bellevue Hospital, has obtained seme remarkable and valuable results in skin grafting daring the past year. One patient who required Bach treatment refuaed to famish grafts from bis own arms or body, owing to tha pain involved ; and; unwilling to ask another to subjeot himself to a pain' which the person to be benefited waa'anwilling to submit to, Dr. Girdtter tried the experiment of taking ekia grafter- tcomf a Thetdoctor gays: ' r < r "I< cut a piece of ekin from a patient whodied in the wards a few- hours before, first taking oare>to inquire whether the cause of death was due to a poisonous disease or not. 1 I then out the' outiole into- emsll pieced, which I laid on the granulated surfaoe of the ulcers, and bandaged the leg up very firmly.' In three days the graft began to show sigixa of life, » perfect union having taken place; and in a week. a splendid 'skin, smooth and yiaetio, -had grown over the ulcerated part, making a complete oure and leaving no soar behind. Sinoe that time 'l bay« treated upward of fifty oaser with invariable onco'ess. ;I uave grafted the skin ofau^lrißhraanon a negro, and I have grafted the skin of a negro on an Irishman with ease.'
