Died in his sin, unahriven, t , Without a hope to stay hia soul; Passed ,away, uuforgiven, ' - To' seek the sinners gloomy goal! ° The driver whipped up his horse, and the, oab went at a great pace past Charing Cross, and up teitahell-siceet, a giimpse being obtained in passing of the, brokers and speculators, who were still buying and Belling in front of the Beehive, thinking of nothing bat gain. The oooapants of the oab were silent, with the exception of Dr. Weight, i who talked on in his garralooß way, inveighing against the Government and his luck. Walter thought of the different feelings that had engaged his mind in the morning as he was driven up the same street. Victor leaned back in a corner, and seemed occupied with the horrible death of his relative. Bat occasionally answered the doctor, expressing his opinion ireety that the Government were daSera, ia whioh view Dr. Weight cordially coincided. ,
The cab stopped at Grant's Palaoe, whioh was well defined in the light of the moon and all alight inside. Some policemen were standing at .the door, and not a few of the general public, whom the usual morbid onriosity had drawn thither, while a conveyance was waiting for the oorpae. The hut was brilliantly lit up with candles. ' ' 11 Take my arm, Walter,". said Viotor, in a low voice. "I feel quite ill, and very nervous." "I told yon not to come," said Walter, patting his strong aim axonnd his friend. " Death is always horrible, and I have, as a reporter, seen it in many forms." •<I hate the very idea of death," said Viotor, passionately. "Why has it entered this world ? * Why should . onr bright, beautiful life- be ever darkened by the Grim Shadow?"
"We die daily," replied Walter, "and our, final dissolution ia only the climax of <ha dwrntognrtfoa that it&fo to ft ntm Ktirtenoe fox body and soul."
