Tub after year, with a glad content, . In and out .of oar home he went — ■• ■ In and out. . . Brer for us the sines were dear; JKi* heart carried tie care and tear, The ewe and doubt. Car hands held with a caieless hold ■ " All that he won of honour and gold ''' In toil and pain; Oh, dear hands that onr bore— Handa that shall toil for us no more, •"•' •_■.•< Neveragain! ' On,it *iv hqtd to l«arn our loss, Bearing \J«2y the heavy; eross — ' '" ' Th© cross,** bore:" \ To lAy, with an aching heart and head ) I .".Would to'Goil that the Love now dead • Were here once more!*' For when the Love we held too light, <. -. . Tfasrgone away from our speech aridaight, No bitter tears, ■■ ': . Ko passionate words of'fond regret, 1 ■ Ho yearning grief, could pay the. debt Of thankless years.' • Oh, now -unite the aweetiLove lingers near, Grudge not the tender words of*bheer Leave none unsaid. .Vor the heart oan have no sadder fate Than some day to awake —too late— V- ' ' ' And find Love dead!. •
