TARANAKI LAND BOARD.
Monday, 25th October.
(From the Tarauaki Herald.} The Land Board met oja Monday. Present — Messrs. T. Kelly (in the chair), Crompton,' Standish, Barleyinan, and Syine. surveyor's report. The following report, by the Chief Surveyor, was read : — " I have the honor to report that the south-west portion of the town of Stratford will be surveyed by the end of the month. If the Board is desirous of offering any sections for sale on the south side of the Patea river, those most likely to he disposed of will be in the portion abutting on the Mountain road. The cutting up of the land between Eltham and the Waingongoro into ten acre suburban sections, as directed by the Board, will be undertaken in the beginning of next month. { STRATFORD TOWN SECTIONS. I 1 <?a the motion, of Mr. Barleymau, Be- I conded by Mr. Syine, it was resolved, " That the Chief Commissioner and Chief Surveyor be requested to prepare and lay before the Board a plan for utilizing the town sections in the township of Stratford, and to recommend what sections should be offered for sale and what sections and in what block should be offered for lease, and the terms upon which such | leases should be granted." LAND SALE. A memo, was read from the Undersecretary for Crown Land, stating that a notification appeared in the New Zealand Gazette of the 14th instant, setting apart land in the Huiroa and Kaupokonui blocks for sale on deferred payments. WEST COAST SETTLEMENT ACT. The following telegram woe ree ived. from the Under- Secretary : — " It is considered desirable that transactions under the deferred payments system within the West Coast Land District, commenced before the formation of that district, should be continued by you as for the old TaranaM Land District. Captain Wray has been informed accordingly. —H. J. H. Eliott." Mr. Syme moved, " That the Board is of opinion that section 5 of ' The West Coast Settlement Act, 1880,' precludes ifc from, exercising its powers as a Board with respect to lands within the land district created by that Act sold on deferred payments previons to the Act coming into operation ; but if the Government desire it, the Board is willing at all times to assist by advising what action should be taken with respect to such lands." Mr. Crompton seconded the motion, which was earned.
