(from our own corresfonx>ent.) New PtYßrocrflr, Friday night. At the District Court to-day, on the application sf Mr. S. Taplin's solicitor, Mr. Williamson, Jate hotelkeeper at Manutahi, was declared a bankrupt in this district. Mr. Williamson filed his schedule a few days ago in Christchurch.

At the Supreme Court, this afternoon, before the Chief Justice, application was made for a rule absolute to strike a solicitor named Madden, of Palmerston North, ofi the rolls, on the ground of alleged misappropriation by him of money belonging to a client. Thj application was adjourned for a week. Auckland, Friday night.
At an inquest held at Onehunga as to the late fire which destroyed the Royal Hotel there, the jury returned a verdict to the^ffect that there was no evidence to show how the fire originated, but that they were of opinion that greater care was necessary in keeping the spark-catchers, used on the Ross mill, in good repair.
Wholesale spirits, seized by the Custom House officers, at Managata, has today been declared forfeited, and condemned, no claimant having appe ired, and to be sold by auction ; the informant to receive a portion of the proceeds.
A quantity ol lime juice and champagne has also been condemned as alcholic.
The half-yearly meeting of the Bank of New Zealand was held to-day. The report states that the net profits on 30th September, after full appropriation for all debts, bad or doubtful, and the usual reduction in bank premises and furniture, are i! 76,152. There was a balance from the half-year ended 31st March, 1880, of £22,185, making a total available for division of The following appropriations were recommended : — Dividend of 10 per cent! per annum, £50,000; bonus at the rate of ss. per share, equal to 5 per cent, per annum, £25,000; balance carried forward to profit and loss of new account, ; total, i' 98,337.
Greymouth, Friday night.
A man named Nillian, a carpenter belonging to the Anna, was drowned this morning. It is supposed that he was walking from the vessel to the wharf, when the plank slipped, and he fell between the vessel and the wharf. The body has not yet been recovered.
