The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1,850,000 quarters.

Galvanized iron, M 1 ? ,' besfc Sydney copra, £18. The Board of Trade return of imports for the past month amounted to £34,250,000, being an increase of £6,500,000 compared with last year. The exports amounted to £20,000,000, being an increase of £2,625,000.
The ship Brisbane, from Timaru, has arrived. She left June 11.
A telegram to the Times from Constantinople states that Eiza Pasha has only received orders to resist the advance of Montenegro, pending the receipt of orders from the Porte to yield Duleigno.
The Times states that the pressure on the Porte has now ceased to be local. ■
A week ago Mr. Gladstone foresaw the present situation at Dulcigno^ and proposed a l aval demonstration at Stamboul, forcing the Hellespont if necessary. He even named the ships and regiments to be selected for the service. Germany, however, refused, and the proposal was coldly received by the Queen. There are rumors of a tension between the Court and the Cabinet.
Nothing definite has yet transpired regarding the decision of the Great Powers for the settlement of the Montenegrin question, and the cession of Dulcigno on tbe strength of the proposal by England. The Government have decided not to retain Candabar, though the date of withdrawal of the troops is not yet fiVd., The Council of the Viceroy of India recommends the retention of Candahar ; but the Cabinet and Sir Garnet Wolseley oppose its annexation, and prefer the line ofKhojak. A movement has been started in the city for the 'formation of a Syndicate for the construction of the Australian Transcontinental Railway. The Government will not re-enact the Peace Pceservatioa Act in Ireland. The counties of Galway and Mayo, in Ireland, have been proclaimed disturbed districts. The cotton strike, which a few days ago seemed imminent in Lancashire, owing to the refusal on the part of the employers to advance the rate of wages ten per cent., is averted. The work-people have abandoned their claims. Later. A rumor is current here to-day, to the effect that the Sultan of Turkey has decided to meet the demands of the Great Powers, and has resolved at last to surrender I)ulcigno unconditionally to Montenegro. Farther news has "been received, hrom Teheran, regarding the rising in Kurdistan, The rebels are now, in addition to gillaging the town, massacreing the inabitants, and Heschmet Khan is collecting a large force of Persian' troops to proceed against them. A Cabinet' Council, which had been summoned for to-day, was postponed, owing to news having been received at the Foreign Office, that the Sultan is inclined to yield to the demands of the Great Powers in regard to Dulcignon It is now known that the proposal, which had been mode by the British Government to the Continental Powers, for the coercion oi the Porte, is that the combined squadron should enter the Gulf of Smyrna, and there place an embargo on Turkish commerce. It is said that both Austria find Germany hesitate to accept this proposal. Xi Athens, October 11. Owing to the. possibility of hostilities between Greece and Turkey over the settlement of the frontier question, numbers of volunteers are arriving here from other countries, and offering themselves for service with the Greek army. j MelbotjbNe, Tuesday. The Social Science Congress has commenced its sittings. The burglar, who eotered Government House on the 19th September, and carried off a quantity of jewellery belonging to Lady Robinson and others, has been captured.
