mHE WANGANUI CHRONICLE. X [Established 1856.] This old-established morning newspapei* has been recently enlarged to the full size of a double -royal, and a very large additional expenditure has been incurred in the improvement of the news columns, making the paper a thoroughly reliable and trustworthy chronicle of current events. On all public questions of social, commercial, and political importance, the Chronicle has ever advocated the tiiiest interests of the people, and the same honest and intelligent outspokenness will be observed in the future. The paper has now a large and daily increasing circulation in Wanganui, and in all districts to the north and south of that centre, and may be had of agents in all the towns on the coast. IT is hereby notified that 127 Sections of Land in the above-named locality will be offered for sale on deferred and immediate payments. The sections on deferred payments will be open for application on Monday, the 25th October, at the Land Offices Carlyle and Hawera. Sections for which there ai*e more than one application will be submitted to auction, between the applicants only, on Thursday, the 2Sth Ocfcobei-, ah Saweiu. The price of land on deferred payments will be £5 an acre. Five shillings per acre will haye to be deposited on making application. Each applicant will only be allowed to apply for one section on deferred payments. Applicants for land on deferred payments may send their applications and deposits, with statutory declaration as required by the Land Act, 1877, through post to Land Office, Carlyle, Patea, to arrive on or before the 25th ' October. Envelopes should be marked " Application for deferred payment land, Waimate Survey District " The land on immediate payments will be sold by public auction, open to all bidders, on Friday, the 29th October, at Hawei-a. Upset price, £4 an acre. On immediate payment there are 88 sections, ranging from 50 acres to 100' acres each. On deferred payments there are 39 sections, ranging from 50 aci*es to 80 acres each. Colored lithograph plans may be seen at all the Land Offices of the colony on and after the 15th instant. SEPARATE TENDERS will be received at the Public Works Office, New Plymouth, until Noon on Thursday, 28th October, 1880, for GRAVELLING or METALLING (if required) Contracts Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, on the Mountain Road, County of Patea; and Contracts Nos. 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6, on the Mountain Road, County of Taranaki. They must be addressed to the Hon. the Minister for Public Works, and marked outside " Tenders foi' GravGl]ifi£ oi- MebaSlng. " Specifications and conditions may be seen at the Public Works Offices, Wellington, Wanganui, and New Plymouth ; Post Offices, Carlyle aud Hawera ; and at the Telegraph Office, Normanby. All Tenders must be accompanied by a deposit cheque for the amount named in the specifications ; such cheque to be specially marked by a banker as good for twenty-one days, and to be in favor of the ReceiverGeneral's Deposit Account only, and not to bearer or order. The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted. N.B. — Parties tendering will be required to prospect for and find a supply of gravel as near the work as possible; and each tenderer must state the least numher o£ teams he intends to employ on the work; not less than four teams, however, shall be employed on any one contract.
