HAWERA TOWN BOARD.
' Monday, 4th October. Present— Messrs. Winks (in the chair), Dumll, King, Dingle, and Cockburn. CORRESPONDENCE. ' From T. Lloyd, requesting permission to construct a crossing in High-street, near his hotel. — It was resolved to grant permission to form a crossing in Princessstreet. v From A. Domingo, withdrawing his termer application for a crossing, and asking permission to erect a sign-board across the- footpath in front of his board-ing-house.—Refused. From Louisa Smith, drawing attention to the state o£ the Hence round the section leased from the Town Board by George Hellier, and suggesting that a deep ditch should be made, and the fence planted with quicks, according to the terms of his lease. — No action taken. From H. R. Baker, suggesting that the Town Board should take charge of the instruments belonging to the band, until there was more musical talent in the place. — Resolved that Mr. Baker's suggestion be complied with, and that the secretary rec ive the instruments on behalf of the Town Board. DEPUTATIONS. Mr. Hellier waited on the board, and stated that he was charged for more j ground than he occupied. — Tl>© board ye- j quested Mr. Hellier to send in an account i for the amount he had overpaid. Mr. Milford asked that a road should be made to his section, on Cameron's block, as he had no means of getting in. He would be willing to make the road himself, if the board would forego collecting rates. — It was resolved that the engineer should report to nest meeting. FOOTPATH CROSSINGS. A discussion took place, on a motion proposed by Mr. Cockburn, as to the advisableness of the board doing all the j footpath crossings applied for, and charging the cost of same to applicants, but no action wastaken. THE TOWN-ACRE RESERVE. The Secretary read the conditions of sale of the town reserve, fronting the .Town Hall, to be sold on the 28th inst. The leases are to be for 21 years, and buildings, of not less value than jSIOO, must be erected within two years from the date of lease. The acre is to be cut up into eight sections. Mr. King proposed that the corner section, opposite tiie Institute, be reserved for Town Board offices. Seconded by Mr. Dingle, and carried. The same section was reserved for offices by the previous Town Board, when it was resolved to lease the reserve. | THE BREWERY NUISANCE. Mr. Cockburn reported that the committee had made an inspection, and stated that Mr. Burton was willing to clear the drain out once a fortnight, if the board, would clear the drain out in the ' first instance, and get the proper levels. Mr. Burton would be willing to give the use of a horse and cart to take the refuse away. — It was resolved to clear the drain out, on the motion of Mr. Cockburn, seconded by Mr. Dingle. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment: — John Twigg, i? 22 6s. Bd. ; W. H. E. Wanklyn, £10 17s. The board then adjourned. |
