Papawai is a dark bay horse, standing 164 hands high, great power and quality, good constitution and temper, splendid legs and feet ; is well adapted for getting weight-carriers, and crosscountry horses. Papawai was got by the famous horse Sator out of Maid. Sator is by Fort-a-Bras, out of Simonette. Fort-a-Bras is by The Baron, out of Subpoena, by Physician ; her dam, Slime, by Picton. Simonette is by Fitz-Gladiator, out of Flora Mclvor, by Venison. Papawai, dam Maid, bred by Mr. Lovegrove, by Golden Grape, out of Sally Brass, by Sir Hercules, oufr of Vesta. For further pedigree, see " New Zealand Stud Book." Terms — £4 single mares; two or more, as per agreement. Groomage,, ss. Puriri, bred by H. Redwood, Usq., 1878, is 7 years old, by Towton, dam Waimea, by Sir Hercules, dam Flora Mclvor, by Emigrant, dam Cornelia, by Grasshopper — Manto by Southsayer. Towton by Melbourne, dam Cinizelli; Cinizelli by Touchstone. -See " New Zealand Stud Book." Towton, sire of Puriri, was also sire of such celebrities as old Tambourini, Korari, Songster (sire of Hornby), &c. Full brother to The Peer (sire of Manuka and Peeress), also to Marchioness, winner of English Oaks and other great races. Half brother to the famous Marquis (sire of Painter, Newminster, and Grand Prix) who won St. Leger, Two Thousand,' and ran Caractacus to a head for the Derby. Waimea, dam of Puriri, was the greatest stud matron in New Zealand, her progeny having won more races and produced more winners. ' Her descendants were Manuka', Toi Toi (dam Kakapo and Hornby), Harekeke (dam Korari), Totara, Fapapa. Kauri, Rama Rama, and Leveller. Terms — Single mares, six guineas; two mares, £11; three mares, £16; four mares, £21. Groomage, ss.
