TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR.
Sib, — In your issue of the 22nd instant, I see that John West, Whakamara, road work contractor, has signed his name, instead of the nom-de-plume "Katipo," to his letter. He makes me say the Ganes were mates in the tender, and further, that the penalty would not be enforced, should I get this job. I know John West is not a very amiable person, but I did believe him to have a slight regard for the truth. He has now dispelled that belief, but I must decline to allow John West to make a tool of me, to wreak his spite on either P. J. or G. W. Gane. He has said more than once, in my hearing, that he would " stick at nothing " to get the Ganes out, of their deferred payment land at Whakamara, but I decline most decidedly to allow John West, or any other person, to make a tool of me. — I am, &c, William Wallace.
