Sire-— Mr. Kettle's imported horse Sir William Wallace. Sib William Wallace is a beautiful dark bay with black points, and was foaled January 7th, 1872. Tor Bymmetarsr,Btrength,anclaction, he stands unrivalled. He is perfectly quiet, docile, and tractable. No horse approaches him in quality and quantity of bone, muscle, and hair. He is a sure foal-getter, and his stock are turning out first-class. He has taken the Champion Prize in Wanganui two years in succession, viz., in 1878 and 1879. • . Princess by .Emperor, out of the celebrated mare Kate/ imported by the late Mr. James Strachan. Princess took first prize in Timaru in 1874, against eleven brood mares. Emperor gained three first and three second prizes, being beaten only by his sire, Napoleon. Knockdon's sire was bred by James N. Fleming, Esq., of Knockdbh, out of the renowned mare Rosie, 'by Prince Christian. Prince Christian was -also bred by Mr. Fleming; was by his hWse Prince Consort, out, of his prize-mare Nell. Rosie was also bred by Mr. Fleming; her sire was bred by Major Findlay, of Eastern Hill, out of a Highland- and Agricultural Society's prize-winner. -Her dam; Old Bosie, gained first prize as a three-year old a£ the Highland and Agricultural Society's Show at Dumfries,' and as a brood mare the following year at Kelso. Rosie gained many prizes in Scotland, amongst others, first, as a, twoyear old at Ayr, 1867; first,.as a threeyear old at Ayr, 1868 ; second, as a brood mare at Ayr and Maybole, 1869; and first as a brood mare at Ayr, in 1871 ; same day winning sweepstakes for -best brood mare, open to Scotland. She waa beaten at Ayr and Maybole, in 1869, by Mr. Fleming's mare Salt, but was placed before the same mare in 1871. As a brood mare, Rosie has not been surpassed. Her first foal, a filly, was four times first as a yearling, viz., at Ayr, Glasgow, Maybole, and Highland and Agricultural Society's Show at Dumfries. . In 1871, she was shown twelve times, and always gained the first place. These .winnings included Qlasgow, East Kilbride, , and Highland and A^ridultural Society/s Show at Perth. 1^ 1872, she was again first at Ayr. Her second foal, also a filly, 'gained, second prize at Ayr,: and first at Glasgow, and Highland and Agricultural Society's Shqw at: Perth, as a yearling in 1871. In 1872, she waaagara first at Ayr and Glasgow. At present, she is considered the best of her age in Scotland. Her next foal was Knockdon. He was foaled on the 26th May, 1871, and gained the first prize at Ayr, and second at Glasgow, in 1872, and first at Timaru as a three-year-old in 1873, and first again in 1875, against all comers. Knockdon took first prize , in Timaru as a yearling; first in Wanganui as a two-year* old; first in Wanganai as a 1 three-year-old ; Rrsb in Warerlej'for all horses.
