Wellington, Friday night

It is understood that proceedings have been taken against Mr. Macdonald, auctioneer, for a breach of the Auctioneers Ordinance, by sellings goods last night. Serious charges have been made against two constables for ill-treating a prisoner, it being alleged that the former locked np the prisoner for being drank, bat who appears to have \>rolcen his leg And allowed him to remain- in the -station all night without receiving medical assistance. The- prisoner- is now > in the hospital. The police deny the charge, and state that wh n the. prisoner complained of having broken his leg they examined the limb, but' could find no trace of injury. The Town Clerk has written to the Commissioner of Police requesting him to institute a strict inquiry into the matter.
