PATEA AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION

A meeting of the committee of the above association was held on Saturday, after the horse parade, at 3.45. Present — Messrs. Chapman (in the chair), Dickie, Mcßae, Pearce, Heam, Fleming, Powdrell, Gower, Honeyfield, .Turner, Wilson, CVSymes, Eyton- (secretary). The minntes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A. circular letter- was-read from the association re the appointment of judges to the spring show, addressed to the associations of TaranaM, Wanganui,. Napier, and Wairarapa. A letter from the Wanganui association was read, nominating Mr. E. A. Campbell as judge of draught stock ; Mr. J. W. Baker, as judge of cattle; and Mr. J. Heslop, as judge of blood stock ; and Mr. J. Handley, judge of sheep, for the show at Patea on November 4 ; and asking 'for nominations for the Wanpfanni snow; A letter was also received from the Pastoral Association of Tatanato, stating that three members of the association would be ready to attend at Pafcea as judges for horses, cattle, and sheep on 4tb November. Tenders were received for the erection of a shed and yards' on the show ground from Messrs. J. Salmon: — Shed, £12 10s ; hurdles, 2s 6d; White, hurdles, 3s 9d; Foster and Nixon, shed, i>lo 18s ; Foster and Nixon, shed, £B', hurdles, 3s 6d; Hougey, 100 hurdles, £21 10», Irwiii, shed (labor only), j£3 9s; to make and to supply timber, hurdles, 3s (accepted) : Waite. shed, £4 10s. Mr. Chapman rose to move the follow* ing resolution : — " That the thanks of the Patea Agricultural and Pastoral Association be tendered to the N.Z. Loan Society for the donation of their cup, ond to those other gentlemen who have so liberally subscribed to the special prize fund ; and also avails itself of this opportunity to express a hope that the ladies of the district will also lend their kind assistance and co-operation towards making the produce and horticultural departments in the coming show a success." The resolution was seconded by Mr. Wilson, and carried unanimously. The Secretary handed in a rough estimate of the assets and liabilities of the association, to the following effect : — Estimated receipts, £220. Estimated expenditure, exclusive of prizes, £136. The consideration of the prize-list was then proceeded with. Last year's list being accepted as the basis. A proposal was made to give printed certificates instead of the third -prizes for cattle. Mr. Pearce thought it would only be paying a printer for nothing, and it was hardly worth while to go to the expense for a piece- of card-board. Upon the question, that no third prizes be given, being put to the vote, it was declared carried on the voices. No certificates for third prizes will be given. A proposal was made by the chairman that an extra entrance fee of 2s 6d Bhould be paid by competitors for special prizes, in every case where a prize for a similar exhibit is not offered by the association* The proposal was carried unanimously. With the exception of the alterations referred to, the prize-list of 1879 will be adhered to. The Chairman explained that, from the nature of the ground which hsd been secured by the association, it .would be easy to form a good water-jump. The proposition was favorably received, and it was arranged that a 12ft. water-jump should be formed. Entries 10s. ; half entries would be added to the high and water-ynmp stakes. The consideration of the rules was then proceeded with, and a new rule was passed, to the effect that no: exhibitor should be allowed to enter more than three exhibits in ■ any one class. A rule was adopted, giving the judges power to disqualify from competition any animal wrongly entered. ~ The following gentlemen were nominated as judges for Wanganui show. : — Mr. Wilson, for sheep ; Mr. Powdrell, for blood stock ; Mr. Pearce, for cattle: An account from Galvin andXJo. was passed for 6s. -"'•,■ The meeting adjourned at. 6 pp.mr. r
