A passenger named Thomas Tynan, by the barque Anne Melhuish, which arrived from Newcastle to-day, jumped overboard during the passage, and was drowned.
Christchuroh, Friday night.
A boy named Wallace, 16 years of age, who was admitted into the hospital in a comotose condition from drinking the greater portion of a bottle of brandy, died this morning.
Auckland, Friday night.
Information has been received to the effect that a young man ' named John Mclntosh was supposed to have been drowned on Monday last while crossing the river near Mongonui on horseback. The horse, saddle, and bridle of the missing youth has been found close- to the river, but not a trace of the body has as yet been found. Invercargill, Friday night.
Mr. Joyce, ex-member for Wallace, has received a requisition to stand for Waikaia. Mr. H. Feldwick, ex-member for Invercargill, was also communicated with, but declined to offer himself for election.
