NOTES AND QUERIES.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR.
Sir, — Why start another Cavalry dorps in Hawera? Can the fact of another set of officers being required Lave anything to do with it ? Better one strong company than two weaklings. Let the superfluous energy of •the ambitious be directed into more fruitful channels, or mischief will most assuredly accrue to this proposed ill-considered move. Is our Town Board powerless ? Are their resolutions re foothpath ti-es-passers to remain a dead letter ? Had not Inspector Bullen be requested to see what can be done ?
When is the acre opposite the Town Hall to be leased ? Surely the funds of the Board are not so healthy as to require no further addition. Wanted to know, how many liours yec year tu© Tcywn Board office is open? "Wanted known, whether the Town Board intend to keep the deep ditch in High-street (near the Presbyterian Church) as it is at present — a trap for horses and vehicles? Or would they be sin-prised to hear of an action for damages at any time to the extent of a few hundreds? Remember, O City Fathers, an old proverb of your grandmotheis, " a stitch in time saves nine." — I am, &c,
Diogenes.
