TARANAKI LAND BOARD.

The Board met on Monday. Present — The Chief Commissioner (in the chair), Messrs. Crompton, Standish, and Syme.
EXTENSION OP TIME.
An application was made by John' Batson for an extension of time for twelve months for the payment of instalments due on the sections occupied by him on terms of deferred payment. — The application was granted.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE.
A telegram from Mr. Barleyman was r ad, which stated that, owing to the bad state of the Mountain road, he was prevented froni attending the sitting of the Board, and requesting leave of absence. — Leave was accordingly granted.
REPORT OF SURVEYOR.
The following repo t of the Chief Surveyor was read : — " I have the honor to state for the information of the Waste Land Board that at present we have no rural sectional work in hand in the forest districts, the surveyors (with the exception of one, who is engaged on Stratford south) being at Waimate. The sections lately sold at Baleigh, and also those on the Mountain road, will be marked out, according to your request, in a few days."
HAWEEA ROAD BOARD.
A letter was read from Messrs. West and Allen, complaining that the Hawera Road Board was about to expend deferred payment money in the erection of a bridge over the Otoki stream, at Whakamara road. The writers alleged that this expenditure was useless, and would not in any way hene&t deferred payment selectors ; and they requested the Board not to sanction tbe expenditure.
The Chairman was instructed to reply that no proposition for expenditure had yet been received by the Board, but if the expenditure was made by tke Road Boawl the Lanil Board would not approve of it, as it was illegal.
DEFAULTERS.
A list of persons who had made default in tbe payment of the instalments due upon their holdings was rend, and the chairman was authorised to write to such persons requiring them to state the reason of their neglect in paying the instalments.
SWAMP LAND.
The Board agreed to recommend the Government to proclaim open for sale two sections on the Ngaire swamp, applied for by Messrs. Campbell Brothers.
