BRUTAL MURDER IN OTAGO.

(per united press association.) Dunedin, Friday night.

Mrs Young, residing at Kyeburn, was murdered on Wednesday morning. The door of the house was burst open by large stones, and smashed off its hinges. Three stones were found, weighing about 30 to 50 lbs. each, and two of them are covered with blood. A Chinaman, occasionally employed by deceased, was the first to give the alarm. Mrs Young appears to have been abe to speak at this time, and asked the Chinaman to go for assistance, On the neighbours arriving, she was asked who' did it, and whether itwas a Chinaman or a European, and she led them to understand it was a Chinaman ; but at this time it is uncertain whether she was conscious or not. No money or valuables appear to have been taken away. Over £1000 in deposit receipts, and £-40 in cash, was discovered. The object of the murder was evidently plunder, and although all likely places were turned out, the money was missed, as it was kept in 1 a place in the kitchen known to the deceased only. Mrs Young

was universally respected in the district, whioh is very excited over the event, but people are hopeful that the perpetrator will soon be discovered.
