HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Thursday, July 29.
Ministers refused to allow Sir William Fox to introduce a Bill to endow the borough of Marton.
The Taranaki Iron Smelting Act Amendment Bill, the Hospital and Charitable Aid Endowment Bill, Fire Brigades Bill, and Otago Harbor Board Bill, were passed.
The Chinese Emigration Prohibition Bill was discharged from the Order Paper.
The Marriage with the Deceased Wife's Sister Bill was read a second tune without discussion, on a division, by 27 to 9.
Friday, July 30.
In the House of Representatives to-day, at the morning sitting, the following Consolidation Bills, prepared by the Statute Revision Commission, were passed through all stages: — Arms, Banks and Bankers, Bills of Exchange, Procedure, Mercantile, Land and Chattels Securities, Building Societies, Animals Protection, Married Women's Property Protection, Alien, Marriage, Juries, Cruelty to Animals, Death by Accident, Compensation, and Adulteration Bills.
The Census Bill was read a second time, and passed.
' At the afternoon sitting, the Maori Prisoners Detention Bill, to provide for the detention of the prisoners now being arrested, passed through all stages,- after considerable" opposition. , • "-
