TARANAKI LAND BOARD.

The Board met on Monday, when the Crown Lands Commissioner presided. Present — Messrs. Crompton, Standihh, and Syme.

LAND OFEICEE AT HAWERA.

The Chairman read a draft letter to the Under-Secretary of the Land Department, Wellington, re the appointment of «i land officer at Hawera, and the abolition of the office of Receiver of Land Revenue at Carlyle. The letter was approved of. LAND AT URENUI.

A telegram was read from the Government, requesting that certain sections at Urenui be withdrawn from sale, as the same had been previously •given to Mr. C. M. Kyngdon as compensation for a road* taken through nis property. A resolution was accordingly passed withdrawing the sections from sale.

BOAD FRONTAGE.

A letter was received from Mr. Fookes, stating that allotment 275, Moa, which he had purchased from Mr. Jones, had been entirely cut off from communication with the road ry a deviation having been made in the original line of road. He therefore requested permission to purchase part of section 287, Moa block, containing five acres, in order that his land might have a frontage to the road. On the motion of Mr. Standish, it was resolved, " That the resolution of 24th February, 1875, giving Messrs. Jones and McMillan a right to purchase the strips of land between sections 275 and 276, Moa district, and the Mountain road, so far as relates to Mr. Jones and the strip of land (now section 287) be rescinded, and that Mr. Fookes having acquired the interest of Mr. Jones in the adjoining land, be allowed to purchase the said section 287, under the provisions of clause 284 of the Land Act, 1877."

EXTENSION OF TIME.

Carlo Turchi applied for an extension of time for the payment of the instalments due on section 35, block 6, Huiroa. Extension granted until the Ist January, 1881. Edward Taylor was Allowed an extension of time until July, 1881, for the payment of instalments due on section No. 103, Moa.

OPENING OF NGAIRB ItOAD.

A letter was read from Mr. Taylor, complaining of the impassable state of the Finnerty road, near his land at the Waiongona river. It was stated that between -6400 and £500 had been collected on the deferred payments of lands for the purpose of making roads in the district, and such money would require to be handed over to the Patea County Council unless a road district was formed.

Mr. Standish moved, and Mr. Crompton seconded, — " That the chairman be instructed to write to Mr. Taylor and the Patea County Council re constitution of a road district."

EOAD IN THE GREY DISTRICT.

Mr. J. W. Saxton wrote to the Board stating that having become the purchaser of section 72, Grey district, he found that there was no authorised road by which he could obtain access to his property ; he requested to be allowed to purchase a portion of a closed road opposite his property. It was moved by Ml*. Standish, and seconded by Mr. Crompton, — "That the ranger be instructed to inspect and fix the value of the closed road between sections Nos. 59, 60, 72, and 73 in the Grey district, and that it be offered to Mr. Saxton under the provisions of clause 164 of the Land Act, 1877.

SALE OF A SECTION.

Mr. C. Eennell appeared before the Board, as attorney for Mr. R. C. Hughes, with reference to the sale of section No. 172, Tarurutangi district.

The matter was deferred until the next meeting. This concluded the business.
