MORE NATIVE ARRESTS NEAR PARIHAKA.

[Specially Telegkaphed to Stab.]

(from our own correspondent.)

Armed Constabulary Camp, Pukehinau, Friday morning. Four Maoris were taken prisoners yest3rtlay, aucl four to-day, which brings the number already arrested up to fifty. Twelve are to be despatched from Pungarehu at noon to-day for New Ply niouth, en route for Lyttelton. Humors were afloat yesterday that one hundred natives were to be sent to-day fencing, but they were not substantiated by fact. The natives all go away smiling and pleasant, their only anxiety appearing to be with respect to their pipes, matches, and tobacco, which they are afraid might be taken from them. They say they are not arrested for theft, and should not be treated as thieves.

The Taranaki Herald of Wednesday says: — "Twelve natives arrived in town, last night from the camp, in the custody of a detachment of the A.C. Force. Most of the natives are strangers, there being only one or two Taranaki -.natives among them. One of the prisoners is a wellknown native uained Richmond, of Pukearuhe. Another arrest was effected this morning at the camp, when four natives were secured. It is said that Te Whiti will [shortly increase the number of natives at the fencing work, as he has plenty ot volunteers. He intends to give the Constabulary the rather arduous duty of taking one hundred prisoners in one batch. It is possible that Te Whiti will alter his present tactics, and if he employs all his followers in the fencing operations at one time, the Constabulary will have their hands full."
